SAMBA, Feb 12: A bovine smuggler was arrested and 10 animals he was illegally transporting in his vehicle were rescued by police in Ghagwal area here today.
While performing routine vehicle checking duty at naka NHW Tapyal, a dumper (JK19A-7376) coming from Kathua side was intercepted for checking but the driver of the vehicle accelerated the speed, endangering the life of police personnel on naka duty, said a police official.
The alert cops, however, successfully chased and intercepted the vehicle, he said.
On checking it, they found 10 animals crammed inside the vehicle in a cruel manner without any valid permission, said the police official.
Accordingly, they arrested the bovine smuggler identified as Shabir Shah of Chamalwas, tehsil Banihal, district Ramban, and booked him in case FIR number 24/2025 under section 223 BNS, 11 PCA, 3 PDPP Act, and 50/52/54 Transport of Animals Rules registered at Police Station Ghagwal, while starting further investigation into the matter.
