SRINAGAR, Feb 14: Ahead of examinations, Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has allegedly rejected the forms of 22 students of 10th standard of a private school here.
The rejection appears to be due to the school’s lack of registration, preventing students from receiving their roll number slips and, consequently, from appearing in the exam.
The MLA Handwara and J&K People’s Conference Chairman, Sajad Lone, raised the issue, stating that it is the Government’s responsibility to ensure unregistered schools do not operate.
“22 students submitted their 10th-class exam forms through Islamic Global School, Padshahi Bagh Srinagar two months ago. JKBOSE rejected their forms due to the school’s non-registration,” he wrote on ‘X’.
With exams starting from Monday, he said that the students cannot obtain their roll number slips and hence can’t sit for exams “putting their careers in peril.”
“It is the job of the Government to ensure that unregistered schools don’t operate. It is not the job of the parents. How do parents know whether the school is registered or not,” he added
Lone said that the onus of rescuing the children falls on the Government. “Please don’t wash your hands off like you do in everything. And neither is it a UT or a state issue. It is well within the powers of the government.”
He said that the Chairman of JKBOSE can easily intervene and facilitate a partnership with a registered school. “Anything to rescue the children.”
President of the Private Schools’ Association of J&K (PSAJK), G.N. War, also raised the issue, stating that JKBOSE authorities have not responded to concerns regarding the matter.
“Exam of 10th class is on Feb 17, 2025; 22 students of Islamic Global School are denied permission to appear, despite tagging orders from DSEK. Chairman JKBOSE not responding. Who will be responsible for spoiling career of innocent students?” he asked.
MLA Zadibal and National Conference (NC) chief spokesperson, Tanvir Sadiq, said that a delegation brought the issue to his attention and urged Cabinet Minister Sakeena Itoo to intervene.
“22 students… are at risk of missing their 10th Board exams due to the school’s pending JKBOSE registration,” he said, adding that despite following due procedure, the approval has not been granted.
“These students shouldn’t suffer for no fault of theirs. I urge you to kindly intervene and ensure they can appear for their exams. Their future is at stake,” he wrote in a post on ‘X’.
Despite multiple attempts, Sakeena Itoo remained unavailable for comment.
Meanwhile, the school asserted its legal standing, stating that it holds formal registration and has secured tagging orders from the DSEK.
However, it claimed that JKBOSE has still denied its students permission to sit for the Class 10 Board exams, prompting the institution to consider legal action.
