The issue surfaced when the school alleged that, despite receiving tagging orders from the authorities, the JKBOSE rejected the examination forms of 22 students who were set to appear in the class 10 examinations.
The students affected by the school’s unrecognized status-whose examination forms were rejected-will also have to wait to appear in the exams, which began today, as the Government works to arrange an alternative solution.
Speaking to Excelsior, Minister Sakeena Itoo said the school is recognized only up to Class 8 and has been operating without registration for Classes 9 and 10.
“This has been going on for years. We have now ordered an inquiry to ascertain how the school was functioning this way. The school administration tried to create pressure at the last minute, but that won’t work,” she said.
“If the school is not registered for class 10, how can they operate like that and play with the career of the students. It is a fraud and needs to be looked into. At the same time, it raises question marks over the parents who do not see where they are admitting their wards.”
The Minister said that there were issues with other schools as well but after tagging, she said: “we have enabled the students to sit in the exam, but this particular school tried to create last-minute pressure, which is not acceptable.”
It is to be noted here that the issue was flagged by the Private Schools’ Association of J&K (PSAJK) as well as a number of legislators, including MLA Zadibal, Tanvir Sadiq and Sajad Lone, seeking Government’s intervention in saving the career of the affected students.
Regarding the students, who have not been able to sit in the examinations that began today, the Minister said it won’t be possible to have these students sit in the exam as of now. However, she noted that they will be accommodated.
Itoo said that the Government will ensure that the academic year of the affected students is saved and they are allowed to sit in the examination for class 10, but not immediately.
“We will see and do whatever we can for the students and have them appear in the examination, but as of now, it won’t be possible at all; we will ensure that the academic year of these students is saved, but they won’t be able to sit in the examination immediately,” she said.
Meanwhile, a local court here directed the Board of School Education (BOSE) authorities to accept the registration of students of Islamic Global School Srinagar and allow them to sit in upcoming secondary school examinations.
