Combating food wastage

Sir,
India’s staggering food wastage is a pressing concern that demands immediate attention. With 21 million tonnes of wheat wasted annually, and 40% of all food produced never reaching the consumer, the economic and environmental implications are dire.
The culture of excess and wastage, particularly during social gatherings and weddings, must be addressed. Implementing efficient food storage, transportation, and processing facilities can significantly reduce wastage. Moreover, individual awareness and responsible consumption habits can also play a crucial role.
The government must formulate a comprehensive strategy to tackle food wastage, involving civil society and private sectors. By doing so, we can ensure food security, reduce economic losses, and mitigate environmental degradation.
