Senior CPI (M) leader and MLA Mohd Yousuf Tarigami also said that all secular forces should unite to press for restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
They were addressing CPI(M)’s 13th State Conference, here today.
“Great injustice has been done with the people of J&K and restoration of Statehood is our main demand,” said Prakash Karat, adding that PM Modi should fulfill his commitment in this regard.
The CPI(M) charged the Modi Government with failure on all fronts and stressed that his party would continue to expose these failures.
On the pictures of Indians getting handcuffed and humiliated while being deported from the US, Karat said, “Prime Minister Modi should have raised the issue with US President (Donald Trump) during his recent visit to the country. Two more planes came from the US after Modi’s visit but they also faced the same situation. They are the citizens of our country and are not criminals who deserve such a treatment,” he said.
While addressing the conference, senior CPI (M) leader M Y Tarigami said that all secular forces should unite to press for restoration of Statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
“We appeal to all secular parties to come together and support us. This is not a question of one region or one community but the people of entire J&K and the people of Ladakh which was separated from us,” he said.
He appealed to the people of Jammu not to get swayed by the “false propaganda” of the BJP in the name of development and nationalism and said, “It was Maharaja who introduced the state subject laws in 1927 to protect land and jobs for the locals.”
“Nation is formed by its people and is not the name of mountains and streams. People in J&K and Ladakh are not happy, unemployment is highest and the stopping of darbar move has hit the economy of Jammu,” added the CPI(M) leader.
