18th UT J&K Wushu Championship concludes

JAMMU, Feb 18: The 18th UT J&K Wushu Championship concluded in a grand style at Indoor Hall Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu. The four-day event saw fierce competition among 1200 Wushu players from 19 districts, Six Khelo India centres and the Jammu and Kashmir Police. District Jammu was crowned the overall champion of the championship, while District Srinagar claimed the runner-up position. The Khelo India Centre (KIC) Jammu secured the 2nd runner-up spot.
Minister for Youth Services and Sports (YSS) Satish Sharma, graced the closing ceremony as the chief guest. He lauded the Wushu Association of J&K for its efforts in promoting the sport and providing a platform for budding Wushu players across the region. He emphasized that Wushu has become one of the most decorated sports in J&K.
Minister reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to making J&K a sports hub and highlighted the importance of sports in engaging youth and fostering physical and mental strength. He urged parents to encourage their children to pursue sports. Kuldeep Handoo briefed attendees about the achievements of Wushu players in the region and the support provided by the J&K Sports Council.
Other dignitaries present at the event included Rajeev Sharma (Member Sports Council), Sadat Aslam Wani (Vice President, Wushu Association of J&K), Ritika Singh (Manager, Indoor), Maqsood Rather (Joint Secretary, Wushu Association), Kamal Kishore (Organizing Secretary), Ajay Paul Gill, Nissar Ahmed Mir, Atul Sharma and Ajaz Hassan. Bhavneet, General Secretary of the Wushu Association of J&K, delivering the vote of thanks.
