Revive Siyad Baba Waterfall

Once a thriving tourist attraction and a source of livelihood for many, Siyad Baba Waterfall in Reasi now stands in ruins, a mere shadow of its former glory. The natural marvel, once teeming with visitors drawn to its breathtaking beauty, has been left to deteriorate due to administrative apathy and neglect. The tragic incident of 2018, which claimed seven lives and left 34 others injured, marked the beginning of its downfall. Since then, there has been a lack of efforts to restore and revive this once-popular site, leaving the local economy and tourism sector in despair. Siyad Baba Waterfall is not only one of the biggest waterfalls in North India but also an integral part of Reasi’s tourism circuit. Tourists visiting Mata Vaishno Devi and Shiv Khori often made it a point to stop at this picturesque spot, contributing significantly to the local economy. The shops, food stalls, and small businesses that thrived around the waterfall have now been left struggling to survive.
The neglect of this site is a glaring example of how a lack of proper infrastructure and maintenance can lead to the decline of a natural wonder. The Government must act immediately to restore Siyad Baba Waterfall to its former grandeur. Restoration efforts should include safety measures such as protective barriers, warning signs, and designated safe zones for visitors. Additionally, proper pathways, seating arrangements, and waste disposal facilities should be developed to ensure a comfortable and clean environment for tourists. Beyond infrastructure, effective promotion and marketing strategies are needed to re-establish Siyad Baba Waterfall as a must-visit destination. Organising cultural events, adventure activities, and ecotourism initiatives can further boost its appeal. Additionally, leveraging social media and travel influencers can help in reviving its lost charm. The locals, who once depended on its visitors for their livelihood, deserve a chance to rebuild their businesses and sustain their way of life. The revival of Siyad Baba Waterfall is not just about restoring a tourist spot; it is about bringing back hope and prosperity to the region.
