LEH, Feb 23: Leh Apex Body Co-chairman Chering Dorjay has expressed concerns over the Government of India’s delay in inviting Ladakh’s leaders for the next round of talks to address the region’s key demands, including Statehood, Sixth Schedule protections, and the resolution of gazetted recruitment issues in the Union Territory of Ladakh.
Speaking to the media in Leh, Dorjay revealed that the meeting with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and Ladakh’s leadership was scheduled for February 15 but did not take place. “According to some sources, we have heard that the meeting may now be called on February 25 or 26, but there is no official confirmation. Given the situation, it seems the Government is not serious enough about discussing our issues,” he stated.
Dorjay also stressed that both the Leh Apex Body and the Kargil Democratic Alliance would need to reassess their strategy if they are not invited for talks soon. He pointed out that the Government had failed to issue the minutes of the last meeting and had yet to implement the decisions made there, including the filling of vacant gazetted posts.
He further informed that the Leh Apex Body remains in contact with the Kargil Democratic Alliance, and the two groups will decide on their next course of action if the Government does not hold the long-awaited discussions that were originally scheduled for February 15.
