SRINAGAR, Feb 26: A Government primary school building was gutted in an overnight fire incident in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, officials said.
According to Fire and Emergency Services officials, the blaze broke out at the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) Government Primary School in Malpora, Ranipora, during the night, causing extensive damage to the single-story structure.
Authorities suspect that a gas cylinder explosion in the school kitchen may have triggered the fire, leading to the entire building being engulfed in flames.
Several fire tenders were rushed to the scene to contain the blaze, but the structure was completely damaged before the fire could be brought under control.
Police have also taken cognisance of the incident and started investigations, they said.
