LEH, Feb 27: Chairman/CEC, LAHDC Leh, Tashi Gyalson here today chaired a meeting to discuss key issues including commencement of civilian flight operations at Thoise Airport in Nubra, increasing flight frequency at Leh Airport and exploring the feasibility of evening civil flight services.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC Leh, Santosh Sukhadeve; Air Commodore, Sanjay Prabhu, AOC 21 Wing AFS Leh; Director/General Manager, Airport Authority of India, Leh, A. Umasankar; Group Captain Ajay Kumar, C Adm 21 Wing AFS Leh; ACR Leh, Shabir Hussain; OSD to Commissioner/Secretary, Civil Aviation Department, Gurmet Namgail; Airport Manager, Mahesh Kannan; Airport Manager, Air India, Lobzang Nyendak and Dorjey Rabstan, Station Manager, Leh Airport.
The meeting was also attended virtually by Station Commander, Air Force 19 FBSU Thoise, Pranay Kumar; Surinder Pal Singh Narli, Director, Air Traffic Management, Indigo Airlines and Ram Babu Mahto, Senior Manager, Air Traffic Management, Indigo Airlines. Discussions primarily focused on commencing civilian flight operations at Thoise Airport in Nubra. The Indian Air Force (IAF) has granted clearance and CEC has directed the Airports Authority of India to initiate the necessary procedures to facilitate the transition.
Indigo Airlines and Air India have been encouraged to assess the feasibility of operating flights from Thoise.
Regarding Leh Airport, IAF has allocated a dedicated bay for civil aircraft, ensuring swift and efficient services. Airlines have also committed to increasing flight slots from 18 to 22, significantly enhancing accessibility.
Officials in the meeting also explored the possibility of direct flights to Leh from multi sectors to improve connectivity for residents and tourists.
