Bovine smuggling bids foiled in Chowki Choura, Gharota

JAMMU, Mar 3: Two bovine smuggling attempts were foiled by police in Chowki Choura and Gharota areas here.
On the intervening night of March 2-3, 2025, a Delhi number Swift car coming from Jammu towards Rajouri was stopped for checking at Patiya naka by a team of Police Post Chowki Choura headed by PSI Vinay, but the driver accelerated the speed and escaped from the spot, taking advantage of the darkness, by leaving the vehicle abandoned, a police official said.
On search of the vehicle, he said, three animals crammed inside it in a cruel manner were rescued and a case under the relevant sections of the law registered at Police Station Akhnoor.
Similarly, a team of Police Station Gharota headed by SHO concerned, Inspector Sunil Sharma, intercepted an auto load carrier and rescued two bovines, said the police official.
He said driver Mukthar Ahmed of Dub Sodan Rajpura and co-passenger Mohammad Bashir of Dub Sodan were arrested on the spot and a case FIR number 26/2025 under section 223 BNS and 11 PC Act was registered at Police Station Gharota.
Both of the operations were carried out under the overall supervision of SDPO Akhnoor Virender Gupta, he said.
