JAMMU, Mar 3: Jammu Hemophilia Society, in collaboration with the Department of Paediatrics of Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh (SMGS) Hospital and the Indian Association of Pediatricians, Jammu & Kashmir, organized the Hemophilia Update 2025 conference today.
The event witnessed a consensus among experts that patients suffering from hemophilia should be issued disability certificates as per the Government of India’s guidelines.
Dr Ashutosh Gupta, Principal of Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, was the chief guest, while Director Health Services Jammu, Dr Rakesh Magotra, Principal GMC Rajouri, Dr A S Bhatia and Principal Indira Gandhi Dental College Jammu, Dr Praveen Akhtar Lone, attended as special guests.
Dr Ashutosh Gupta emphasized that providing medicines and treatment round the clock in hospitals is a basic right for patients. He supported the establishment of a Comprehensive Treatment Center at GMC and SMGS Hospital and stressed the need for increased awareness about hemophilia.
Dr Rakesh Magotra highlighted the lack of awareness about hemophilia among the public and promised efforts to bridge this gap. He also agreed to the demand for appointing nodal officers at the district level and assured that guidelines would be issued to Chief Medical Officers to streamline the process of issuing disability certificates for hemophilia patients.
Dr A S Bhatia, Principal of GMC Rajouri, assured that comprehensive treatment facilities, including blood component preparation, would be available at GMC Rajouri. Dr Praveen Akhtar Loan also pledged full support for the treatment of hemophilia patients.
Earlier, Prem Roop Alva, head of the Hemophilia Federation of India, along with Deputy Principal Jagdish Sharma, urged the establishment of integrated hemophilia centers across Jammu and district-level diagnostic and treatment facilities. They also requested the availability of clotting factor concentrates in medical colleges and district hospitals 24/7.
The conference featured a panel discussion with experts like Dr Ghanshyam Saini, Dr Sanjeev Digra, Dr JB Singh, Dr Bilal Sheikh and Dr Jaskarn Singh, who discussed current treatment challenges and future prospects for hemophilia.
Rohit Jandiyal, president of the Jammu chapter, concluded the event with a vote of thanks.
