JU celebrates 49th Foundation Day of CDOE

JAMMU, Mar 3: Prof Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor of the University of Jammu (JU), emphasized the transformative impact of distance and online education during the 49th Foundation Day of the Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE).
He highlighted the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Credit Framework’s role in removing boundaries between conventional and online learning, enabling personalized academic journeys. Stressing the importance of faculty development and curriculum innovation, Prof Rai advocated for interactive teaching methods, AI-powered platforms, and virtual classrooms.
Prof Rai introduced the “Design Your Degree” program, allowing interdisciplinary studies in fields like AI and data analytics. He also emphasized National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) compliance to enhance employability and proposed radio broadcasting and digital outreach for remote learning.
Prof Lalit Mangotra, president of Dogri Sanstha and guest of honour, while acknowledging the University’s progress reflected on the evolution of education from traditional methods to AI-driven platforms. He lauded initiatives like dual-degree programs that empower students with diverse learning opportunities.
Prof Anita Priyadarshini from IGNOU highlighted the NEP’s core principles of flexibility and openness in curriculum and delivery. She stressed that education should focus on learning outcomes rather than examinations and advocated for stronger industry-academia collaboration.
Prof Pankaj Srivastava, Director of CDOE, presented the Annual Report, detailing CDOE’s advancements in technology, inclusivity, and institutional processes. He acknowledged past contributors and outlined future commitments to quality education.
On the occasion, a book titled “Influencer Marketing” by Prof Sandeep Tandon was unveiled. The event also featured cultural performances by CDOE students, including Sufi songs, Qawwali, and folk dances, which were well received by attendees.
Others present on the occasion included Prof Meena Sharma, Dean Planning and Development; Prof Neelu Rohmetra, Dean Research Studies; Dr Neeraj Sharma, Registrar JU; Prof Prakash Anthal, Dean Students Welfare; Prof Yashpal, Dean Life Sciences; Prof Suman Jamwal, Dean Social Sciences; Dr Anupama Vohra (Professor English, CDOE), Prof Naresh Padha, Prof Jasbir Singh, Prof Rahul Gupta (Rector Bhaderwah campus) and Prof V D Singh (former Director CDOE).
Prof Sandeep Tandon, Director of CIQA, CDOE, delivered the formal vote of thanks.
