SMVDU inaugurates workshop on gender studies

KATRA, Mar 3: A three-day workshop on gender studies was inaugurated at the School of Languages and Literature, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), here today.
The workshop aims to provide an academic platform for scholars and students to engage in critical discussions on gender issues and fostering interdisciplinary perspectives.
Prof Pragati Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, SMVDU, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
In his address, he emphasized the significance of gender studies in contemporary academia and policy-making, urging participants to contribute meaningfully to the discourse.
The workshop commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr Anurag Kumar, Head, School of Languages and Literature, who underscored the department’s commitment to hosting intellectually enriching events.
Prof Kavita Suri, the guest of honour, highlighted the need for a gender-sensitive approach in education and research, encouraging scholars to explore innovative methodologies in gender studies.
Dr Amitabh V Dwivedi, Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, delivered the inaugural address, stressing the evolving nature of gender studies and its relevance in fostering inclusivity and equity.
The workshop has drawn participation from scholars and students across various institutions, fostering a vibrant exchange of ideas.
The sessions in the coming days promise to offer deep insights into gender issues from diverse academic and social perspectives.
Dr Isha Malhotra served as the Workshop Coordinator.
