Addressing a press conference today Prof. Iqbal emphasized that the suspension was not arbitrary but was necessitated by non-compliance with institutional norms. He assured that a fair inquiry is underway, and the concerned individual will be given an opportunity to present his case once the process is completed.
Clarifying the University’s administrative status, he stated that no teaching association currently exists, as their tenure has already ended. He also reassured that class work is not suspended, and the University is functioning smoothly.
He urged employees to adhere to institutional rules instead of resorting to pressure tactics, stressing that the University’s progress remains the priority. “We are not against teachers; we want the university to progress, but compliance with norms is essential,” he added.
Meanwhile, protest continued at Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), Rajouri, and the teaching staff today launched a hunger strike against the suspension of Dr. Parvez Abdullah, Assistant Professor in the Department of Management Studies and president of the Teachers’ Association.
Dr Abdullah was recently suspended and attached to the Nursing College of BGSBU in Kishtwar, a move that faculty members describe as a targeted action against those advocating for employees’ rights. The University employees had earlier issued an ultimatum demanding the revocation of his suspension, but after receiving no response from the administration, they resorted to a hunger strike on campus.
Staff claims that his suspension is a result of his efforts in highlighting long-pending issues of the University employees, including the lack of promotions for over 25 years and other administrative concerns. He asserted that his attempts to seek justice for his colleagues led to punitive action against him.
The situation remains tense as students and faculty await further developments, with the protest gaining momentum across the academic community.
