NHM employees demand regularization of services

JAMMU, Mar 4: The National Health Mission (NHM) employees in Jammu and Kashmir have once again called upon the Omar Abdullah-led Government to extend similar recognition and support to its workforce, as recently demonstrated by the Government of Maharashtra.
In a statement issued here to the media, the NHM Employees Association highlighted that the Government of Maharashtra recently made a historic decision to regularize NHM employees who had been working on contractual terms for the past ten years. As part of this initiative, Maharashtra’s Government assured that these dedicated health workers would be accommodated in permanent positions within the State’s health services.
This landmark decision has sparked optimism among NHM employees in Jammu and Kashmir, who have long been advocating for job security and official recognition of their contributions. Following this development, NHM employees in J&K have urged the Government to adopt a similar approach and provide a clear pathway to regularization for the NHM workforce in the Union Territory.
Dr Vikas Sharma, provincial president of All J&K NHM Employees Association, strongly emphasized the need for immediate action, stating, “If Maharashtra can acknowledge and secure the future of its NHM workforce, there is no reason why the J&K Government cannot follow the same course.”
Faizan A Tramboo, senior vice president of NHM Employees Association also voiced his concerns, stating, “Regularization is not just about job security; it is about justice and recognition for the selfless contribution of healthcare workers. We urge the Government to prioritize this demand.”
Adding to the collective demand, Dr Hamid Parray, chief spokesperson of the Association, reiterated, “The Government of J&K must take inspiration from Maharashtra and address this long-pending issue. Regularizing NHM employees will not only ensure stability for the workforce but also enhance the overall efficiency of the healthcare system.”
