CSIR-IIIM Jammu hosts Annual Flower Show cum Floritech Startup Conclave

JAMMU, Mar 9: The CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (CSIR-IIIM), Jammu, organized the Annual Flower Show cum Floritech Startup Conclave today at its main campus, bringing together floriculture enthusiasts, farmers and startups.
The event aimed to promote sustainable agricultural practices and foster innovation in the floriculture sector. Dr Ashutosh Gupta, Principal & Dean of Government Medical College, Jammu, was the chief guest, and Dr C L Sharma, Director of Horticulture, Jammu, was the guest of honour. Dr Zabeer Ahmed, Director of CSIR-IIIM, presided over the event.
Dr Ashutosh Gupta highlighted the importance of such events in building a collaborative platform for various sectors of society. He emphasized the need for closer inter-institutional cooperation, aligning with the vision of Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh. Dr Sharma discussed various Government schemes aimed at supporting flower growers and floritech startups in Jammu and Kashmir.
In his address, Dr Zabeer Ahmed outlined the Institute’s achievements in pre-clinical drug discovery and its initiatives under the CSIR Aroma and Floriculture Missions. Dr Ahmed also emphasized the role of floriculture in enhancing rural livelihoods and the local economy.
The two-day Floritech Startup Conclave saw participation from around 130 innovators and startups, who received training on advanced floriculture techniques.
The Flower Show featured diverse flower exhibitions, innovative gardening techniques, and a Floriculture Farmers Conclave where experts shared insights on modern farming methods and value addition. Key awards included the Dr K Ganpaty Memorial Trophy for Best Garden & Lawn (Civilian) to Devanshy Gulati and the Dr I C Chopra Memorial Trophy for Best Garden & Lawn (Services) to Lt Col T S Arora.
The Floral Painting Competition showcased young talents, with winners across various age groups from schools in Jammu. The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, celebrating excellence in gardening and floriculture. Experts also highlighted the impact of initiatives like the Aroma Mission and the Purple Revolution on farmers’ incomes in the region.
