Jammu, Mar 11: Jammu & Kashmir Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, has approved the commutation of life sentences for three individuals convicted under various sections of the Ranbir Penal Code.
A notification from the Jammu and Kashmir Home Department, issued under the guidance of the Lieutenant Governor, stated, “In exercise of the powers conferred under Section 473 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, and S.O. 2506 (E) dated June 28, 2024, from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, the Lieutenant Governor has ordered the remittance of the remaining term of imprisonment for the convicts listed in the attached annexure, effective from the date of the notification, subject to specific conditions.”
The convicts whose sentences have been commuted include Anil Singh, son of Sandal Singh, a resident of Shastri Nagar, Jammu; Dev Raj, son of Sakhoo Ram @ Sukh Ram, from Chak Jaffray Kana Chak, Jammu; and Girdhari Lal, son of Jia Lal, a resident of Mangnar, Poonch. These individuals had been serving life sentences ranging from over 14 to 16 years.
