Srinagar, Mar 10: The Grand Mufti of Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam, today announced that this year’s Sadaqat-ul-Fitr is fixed at Rs 75 per person.
Addressing media persons here, he said that the amount is based on 1.75 kg of wheat per person and was determined after consultations with Islamic scholars.
He stated that individuals should pay for themselves and their minor children, while financially independent adults must contribute separately.
Mufti Nasir emphasized that every Muslim, including men, women and children, must pay this obligatory charity before Eid-ul-Fitr prayers to help the less fortunate to celebrate the festival.
Sadaqat-ul-Fitr serves to purify one’s fast and support the needy, he said.
Mufti Nasir clarified that the donation must go to deserving individuals such as orphans, the poor and travelers, and should not be used for mosques, religious organizations, or political activities.
He urged the people of J&K to fulfill this obligation on time and ensure their contributions reach those in need.
