JDA launches demolition drive in Sidhra, many structures razed

JAMMU, Mar 11: Scores of structures, including boundary walls/plinth etc were demolished by a team of Jammu Development Authority (JDA), at Ragoora on the bank of river Tawi in Sidhra area today.
Official sources said that in a significant move to reclaim encroached land, the Jammu Development Authority today carried out a demolition operation on the direction of Vice Chairman, JDA, Pankaj Sharma, with the active support by District administration and police led by SDPO Jammu East, SHO Bagh-e-Bahu, SDPO Nagrota and SHO Nagrota.
The drive aimed at removing illegal structures and encroachments from government land. The operation was a part of JDA’s ongoing efforts to get the land free that had been unlawfully occupied, and to ensure the proper utilization of the city’s resources for planned development.
The operation was conducted successfully and was led by Garbi Rashid, Director Land Management JDA, under overall supervision of Vice Chairman JDA with active support of Senior Superintendent of Police, Jammu.
During operation involving two JCBs a total of 30 plinths/boundary walls and a newly under-construction residential building was demolished under Khasra Nos. 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, and others at Rangoora, in Sidhra. Nearly, 25 kanals of JDA land was retrieved from the encroachers.
Vice Chairman issued direction to install JDA sign boards and to start the work of fencing on the the retrieved land. A clear message was given by JDA to all such persons to refrain from encroaching/trespassing into JDA lands else they will have to face strict action.
The demolition drive targeted various locations where encroachers had built structures, preventing the authorities from utilizing the land for public purposes and development projects.
The JDA has urged the public to cooperate with the authorities and refrain from any illegal encroachment, as such activities disrupt planned development. The drive has been widely supported by residents who have long been concerned about the illegal occupation of prime land in the area.
