KATHUA, Mar 12: People staged a strong protest on Jarai Road, blocking traffic in response to the increasing menace of speeding dumpers on the busy Bhagthali Road.
The protest erupted after a tragic accident that occurred late last night, in which a high-speed dumper (Registration Number JK02DF 8651) fatally struck a motorcycle (Number JK08M6559) and dragged it for nearly 200 meters. The victim, identified as Harpreet Singh, a resident of Ward Number 12, Kathua, lost his life in the accident.
Angry protesters expressed outrage over the repeated loss of lives due to reckless driving of overloaded dumpers in densely populated areas. According to locals, this marks the third such fatal incident on Bhagthali Road. Naresh Sharma, one of the protestors, blamed the Traffic, Police, Motor Vehicles Department (MVD), and Mining Department for failing to regulate these heavy vehicles.
The demonstrators demanded an immediate ban on dumper movement in busy residential zones and sought strict enforcement of traffic laws. They also called for a compensation of Rs 20 lakh for the bereaved family of the deceased.
