JAMMU, Mar 13: The Government departments have turned out to be the major defaulters as their electricity bills worth over Rs 3517.90 crores are still pending in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir.

Replying to an unstarred question of AIP Member, Sheikh Khursheed in the Legislative Assembly today, the Government said that power bills worth over Rs 3517.90 crores are pending in respect of top hundred defaulters. Majority of them are the defaulters from various Government departments like, PHE/ Jal Shakti, Irrigation, Tourism and Police.
While giving break-up of the defaulters and the pending power bills, the Government disclosed that consumer- Chief Engineer Salal Hydroelectric/ NHPC Reasi is the defaulter with Rs 56.86 crores pending as on date, Baba Jangi in Sumbal is yet another defaulter with whopping Rs 63.78 crores pending power bill and Xen PHE Sopore has to pay a power bill of Rs 45.84 crores.
The list provided by the Minister In-charge Power revealed that Chief Mining Engineer J&K Minerals Ltd has to pay power bills worth Rs 42.43 crores, Rajpora Lift Irrigation AWP state 1-2 Rs 39.83 crores, Chairman MC Street Light, SD Samba Rs 39.53 crores. M/S Surya Pharmaceuticals Rs 35.83 crores, PHE Panjtoot ( Khour) Rs 27.88 crores, Shadipora 2nd Rs 31.86 crores and PHE Mech Div Sopore Rs 28.87 crores.
Similarly, Water Supply Scheme Tangnar has to pay Rs 24.10 crores, Lift Irrigation- 2nd Awantipora Rs 23.50 crores, J&K Cements Ltd Awantipora Rs 22.49 crores, M/S Sharma Stone Crusher Jammu Rs 20.74 crores, Xen PHE Sopore Rs 20.4crore, SMC Srinagar Rs 16.82 crore, DIG Police Kashmir Rs 16.21 crores, Xen Mech Irrigation Pulwama Rs 15.53 crores, Xen Mech Irrigation Baramulla Rs 15.11 crores, Migrants Camp Nagrota Rs 12.20 crores, MC Udhampur Rs 11.91 crores, EO NAC Reasi Rs 12.17 crores, Police Lines Budgam Rs 11,48 crores, SSP Anantnag Rs 8.58 crores, EO MC Thathri Rs 10.05 crores and so on.
Referring to the amnesty scheme, the Government disclosed that so far 2,75,081 consumers have registered under the ongoing amnesty scheme, out of which 1,60507 consumers are from Jammu division while 1,14587 consumers are from Kashmir.
