SRINAGAR, Mar 13:
Padma Shri awardee Javed Ahmad Tak on Thursday alleged that the recent budget presented by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has failed to address the issues of specially abled persons of the Union Territory.
Tak said this while leading a protest of Jammu and Kashmir Handicapped Association here.
Dozens of specially abled persons holding banners and placards assembled at the press enclave in Srinagar today and demanded reservation for the handicapped people and a monthly pension of Rs 5000.
Talking to the media persons, he said that Omar Abdullah government has failed to address the issues of specially abled persons in his recent budget presented in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly.
He said the budget mentioned various measures in favour of women folk, the people living below poverty and to provide free units of electricity to AAY families, but failed to address the issues of specially abled persons who are living a distress life in Jammu and Kashmir.
“If the government is going to enhance Rs 250 as a charity in the monthly honorarium of the specially abled persons, it would not in no way sufficient for anybody to live their life in just Rs 1500”, Javed said.
The specially abled persons are being paid a monthly honorarium of Rs 1200 in Jammu and Kashmir.
Tak said that the number of disabled persons have significantly increased during the past strife-torn 30 years due to conflict and cross border terrorism. He claimed that researchers believe the number of specially abled people reached 8 lakh in Jammu and Kashmir.
He said despite the fact that several national and international laws have been executed for specially abled persons, the authorities have failed to grant an adequate amount in the annual budget for the social security of these persons.
Tak demanded that what the government had promised in his manifesto to provide Rs 3000 monthly pension in favour of the specially abled persons should be fulfilled immediately.
“If the government failed to release Rs 3000 per month in favour of the specially abled persons, we will stage a protest in front of the Chief Minister’s house and will gherao civil secretariat and assembly on the day of Eid”, Javed threatened.
He said the members are being forced to come out on the roads for their genuine demands as the government has failed to address the issues of the community post elections.
Tak also demanded reservation quota to the community on the same pattern of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe of Jammu and Kashmir, besides to provide free ration and open skill development colletes for the specially abled persons.
