Srinagar, Mar 17: The Government today informed the J&K Legislative Assembly that the Centre is yet to approve the Srinagar Metrolite Project.
In a written reply to a question by MLA Zadibal, Tanvir Sadiq, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah stated that the project has been submitted to the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, Government of India, for approval.
“The revised Detailed Project Report (DPR) for an amount of Rs. 4893 crore for the Srinagar Metrolite Project, prepared by M/s RITES Ltd., was submitted to the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, Government of India for approval. The project has not been approved yet by the MoHUA, GoI,” the CM, who is the Minister In-charge of Housing & Urban Development Department, said.
The Government said that as the project remains at the approval stage, no steps are currently being undertaken for consultation with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) or any other firm regarding its execution and implementation.
It further added that since the project is still under consideration for approval, no revised timeline for its completion can be determined at this stage.
Tanvir also raised concerns over the slow pace of work on Srinagar Smart City project-the upgradation and redevelopment of Nishat Sathu-which the Government stated is nearing completion.
In a written reply, the CM stated that the upgradation and redevelopment of Nishat Sathu from Nishat to Dhol Dum including cycle track, walkway and Deck taken up by the Srinagar Smart City Limited in September 2022 is nearing completion.
Government said, the work was delayed as the project construction was purely manual work which included head load from zero to end and involved shifting of LT/HT poles.
“Besides, the project faced resentment from the locals in converting the proposed cycle track cum walkway into a vehicular road.”
The MLA was further informed that the work is nearing completion except some fishing decks and minor finishing, which shall be completed shortly.
“Resources are being mobilized on a war footing basis and the pending work is likely to be accomplished by March 2025.”
