JAMMU, Mar 18: The Fire & Emergency Services aspirants today staged a demonstration outside Civil Secretariat here in favour of their demands.
Scores of protestors, who had gathered outside the Civil Secretariat, Jammu, tried to corner the vehicle of AAP MLA Mehraj Malik, and march towards the secretariat, but were stopped by the police.
In the police action, some agitators also suffered minor injuries but police denied of using the force.
“No one is injured in the police action. The allegations are baseless,” a police officer said.
The agitating aspirants claimed that despite LG Manoj Sinha promising several times to look into their genuine issues, their concerns have not been addressed till date.
“And today, we were not even allowed by the police to meet the Chief Minister to discuss our plight with him,” they claimed.
According to them, several posts were advertised in the Fire & Emergency Department in the year 2013 and 2017 but were later quashed due to massive irregularities and allegations of corruption.
In the year 2020 as well, they said, several undeserving candidates, who scored below the cut-off marks, were appointed in violation of the norms.
They said an ACB inquiry also validated that 109 candidates scoring less than cut-off marks were appointed against the advertised posts in 2020.
“But the Government didn’t punish those indulging in unfair practices,” one of the aspirants said.
He said the aggrieved aspirants, who had scored above the cut-off marks, have been hitting the streets for the last 12 years but no one is addressing their concerns.
“Most of the aggrieved aspirants have now become over aged. We are not in a position to apply for any exam now. The Government must consider our genuine demands,” he demanded.
