
Honours Sports Scribes, Photo-Journalists

JAMMU: Journalists play a pivotal role in promoting sports and games in the Union Territory and serve as catalysts to help Jammu and Kashmir carve a space on the country’s sports map, thus fulfilling the commitment of the government with regard to improving the standard of sports.

This was stated by Rajinder Singh Tara, Director General Youth Services and Sports J&K in an impressive and well attended function, organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports to honour Sports Scribes and Photo-Journalists at Gandhi Nagar, here on Monday.
The DG Sports said that J&K hosted historic 68th National School Games in four disciplines of sports including Judo, Fencing, Wushu and Football on the trot in a month-long event in Jammu, adding sports journalists played an important role for the grand success of this historic event.
The Director General YSS further said that the Department was leaving no stone unturned in raising sports infrastructure to enhance sports culture in the Union Territory, adding that the Department was aiming at preparing a roadmap after holding seminars with the experts and the sports journalists as well.
The Director General Sports was the chief guest on the occasion, while Joint Director YSS, Ved Prakash, Deputy Director YSS Central Jitender Mishra and Accounts Officer Directorate of YSS Sunil Kumar Sharma were the Guests of Honour.
The Sports Journalists and Photo-Journalists who were felicitated included Sanjay Sharma (State Times), Vikas Abrol (Dainik Jagran), Vishal Bharti (UNI), Sanjeev Sharma (Sportsline News), Ranjit Thakur (Daily Excelsior), Pankaj Khajuria (Greater Jammu), Arun Kumar (Amar Ujala), Sanjay Puri (FE News), Kirti Dhar (Sports India JK), Anuja Ji (Rising Kashmir), Kamal Rana (Punjab Kesari), Ashu Kumar (Northlines) Rakesh Bakshi (Daily Excelsior), Ashok Anand (State Times), Aman (Dainik Jagran), Surjeet Singh (Northlines), Sohan Lal (Punjab Kesari).
