Wrestling competition held in Akhnoor

JAMMU, Mar 31: An annual wrestling competition was held in Sumah, Akhnoor, to mark the occasion of the Hindu New Year. The event, organized by the Peer Baba Wrestling Committee, saw a significant contribution from committee members, including Harish Pradhan, Sanjay Sharma, Tilak Raj, Vinod, Rakesh, Kewal, Shubham, Abhay, Rinku, Yograj, Ravi, Bittu, Rampal (former Sarpanch), Ganesh Sharma and Manisha Sharma (former Sarpanch).
The chief guest of the event was Akhnoor MLA Mohan Lal Bhagat, with other dignitaries in attendance, including SP Rural Brijesh Sharma, Jammu Narwal Sabzi Mandi Pradhan Surinder Singh Kala, Youth Rajput Sabha Pradhan Vikram Singh, Former Pradhan Rajan Singh Happy, Police Station Incharge Rohit Gandhi, Baral Sabha Pradhan Mangal Baral and District Gurudwara Managing Committee Joint Secretary Ranveer Singh.
The competition saw wrestlers from across the country and abroad. A standout match featured Ahmed Mirza of Iran defeating Shubham from Nasik, Maharashtra, in the biggest wrestling bout, with Ahmed winning Rs 2,51,000. Other notable matches included Suhas Godke of Pune defeating Biniya of Jammu and Chhota Saddam defeating Manish of Maharashtra.
Mohan Lal Bhagat congratulated the organizing committee and emphasized the importance of promoting traditional sports to preserve cultural heritage. He encouraged the youth to participate in sports for their mental and physical well-being and assured further support for sports development in the Akhnoor area.
