After arriving in Srinagar, Shah drove to the residence of slain Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Humayun Muzamil Bhat, who was posthumously awarded the Kirti Chakra for his bravery during an encounter in Anantnag, to offer his condolences. Bhat, son of a retired Inspector General of Police, was killed in a gunfight in Kokernag in September 2023.
The Home Minister was accompanied to Bhat’s residence by Sinha and Abdullah and senior Government officials. He spent around 20 minutes with the bereaved family.
Shah was taken to Raj Bhavan after the visit to the family. He met wife Fathima and 20-month-old son Ashar of Kirti Chakra awardee Humayun Muzammil Bhat in Raj Bhawan.
A young and dedicated officer, Bhat had joined the Jammu and Kashmir Police through the Jammu Kashmir Police Services (JKPS) and had quickly earned respect for his professionalism and commitment to duty.
The Home Minister will stay in Srinagar until Tuesday afternoon. On Tuesday at 11 am, he will preside over a key meeting focused on developmental projects. Later, he will lead a comprehensive security review with senior officials from the J&K Police, Army, CAPFs, central intelligence agencies, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, and top officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
It may be mentioned here that the security review meeting is being taken by the Home Minister at a time when there are reports that there have been increased attempts of infiltration by militants along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB).
He is also expected to hold meeting with the Chief Minister as well as Lt Governor Manoj Sinha. He is also interacting with individuals and various delegations.
A three-tier security system was in place in Srinagar. A large number of J&K Police and paramilitary personnel manned the roads while checkpoints were erected at several locations. The vehicles were being checked at several check points and people were also being frisked randomly at many places.
