Ramban’s Sufyan selected for World University Games 2025

JAMMU, Apr 8: Sufyan Waheed Sohil, a talented fencer from Jammu and Kashmir’s district Ramban, has been selected to represent India at the World University Games in Germany in July 2025. Sufyan’s selection comes after a stellar performance during the selection trials at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, where he secured the top rank among 26 of the country’s best fencing athletes.
In addition to his selection for the World University Games, Sufyan has already made his mark at various competitions. He won two silver medals for Jammu & Kashmir at the National Games in Uttarakhand and earned a gold medal at the All India Inter-University Fencing Championships. Sufyan has also represented India at the Junior World Championships in 2023 and 2024 and earned a medal at the Commonwealth Fencing Championships in Christchurch, New Zealand.
Notably, Sufyan is one of three fencers from Jammu and Kashmir selected for the World University Games, and he is the only male fencer from the region to achieve this prestigious distinction.
J&K Fencing Association (JKFA), Ramban District Fencing Association extended best wishes as Sufiyan is the only sportsperson of District Ramban to Represents India in world sporting event. Meanwhile JKFA President Vijay Kumar, General Secretary Javed Ahmed Choudhary, Adv Supriya Chouchan and other Senior Fencers Congratulated Sufyan and wished him best of luck for his upcoming participation in the World University Games and look forward to seeing him continue to excel in his sport.
