On the occasion, AAP leaders and workers also welcomed Mehraj Malik by lifting him on their shoulders as soon as he reached there.
While addressing the protesters, AAP MLA and party’s state president Mehraj Malik said that he had spoken about PDP’s Mufti but he failed the understand why did BJP get offended for it. He further said that the DNA of the relationship between PDP and BJP should be investigated.
Mehraj Malik claimed that he was well aware of the scams in Jammu and Kashmir and he would expose BJP for it.
Mehraj sought to clarify that he did not target any religion and being an elected representative, he would not hesitate to raise people’s issues in the House.
Speaking about the liquor shops, Mehraj Malik said that when liquor shops were being opened like mushrooms, where were the BJP leaders at that time, why did they not protest against it before the Lieutenant Governor.
Mehraj Malik’s father also participated in this protest and while talking to journalists, he said that if these people kill one Mehraj Malik, then 25000 Mehraj Maliks will be born. He said that every youth of Jammu and Kashmir is Mehraj Malik.
Prominent among those who participated in the protest, were Yasir Mattoo, Surinder Singh Shingari, Amit Kapoor, Jayesh Gupta, Engineer Harpreet Singh, Gurmeet Singh, Sandeep Sharma, Amrik Singh, Dixit, Dr Thapa, Parminder Singh, Goldy Singh, Harnek Singh, Harbans Singh, Fancy, Harneet Singh Sandy and others including women.
Meanwhile, in Srinagar, Police foiled a protest by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) members at Press Enclave, where they had assembled to protest against the alleged harassment of Mehraj Malik, by BJP and PDP leaders during the assembly session.
Around a dozen party workers tried to stage a protest in support of Malik but were detained by police and bundled into police vans before the protest could intensify.
The protesters were raising slogans against BJP and PDP leaders, accusing them of trying to “suppress the voice” of Mehraj Malik, who they said is emerging as a representative of the youth and marginalized sections.
The protesters claimed that several party workers had been arrested by the police and urged authorities not to resort to suppression.
Rejecting allegations that the ruling National Conference was provoking Malik, the protesters said the MLA was only raising genuine issues concerning the youth and people of his constituency.
