Samba, Apr 10: Three police personnel, including the Station House Officer (SHO) of Bari Brahmana Police Station, were injured after being attacked by drug peddlers in the Balole Khad area of Samba district late Wednesday night.
Police sources said that acting on a tip-off about the presence of drug smugglers at Balole Khad, a team from Bari Brahmana Police Station, led by SHO Inspector Pushpinder Singh, raided the suspected location.
As the police team reached the spot, the drug peddlers attacked them with stones and bricks in a bid to escape, he said.
In the attack, the police official said that SHO Pushpinder Singh, PSI Abrar ul Haq, and Selection Grade Constable Swarn Kumar sustained injuries.
“All three are posted at Bari Brahmana,” he said, adding that the drug peddlers managed to flee under the cover of the assault.
On Thursday, senior police officers visited the site to take stock of the situation.
Police said the attackers have been identified, and a case has been registered under relevant sections of law. Some suspects have also been detained for questioning.
Meanwhile, efforts are underway to nab the culprits and intensify action against drug networks operating in the area.
