POONCH, Apr 12: The first edition of the Shaheed Manjeet Singh Memorial T20 Cricket Tournament concluded with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervor today.
Organized under the civic action programme by District Police Poonch, in collaboration with the Department of Youth Services & Sports and J&K Sports Council, the Tournament was held in memory of the valiant martyr Deputy SP Manjeet Singh.
The tournament was inaugurated by SSP Poonch Shafket Hussain on 27-03-2025, featuring participation from 32 teams across district Poonch. The chief guest at the closing ceremony was Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Vikas Kundal, while Col Sharad Joseph graced the occasion as the guest of honour.
In the final match, Star Viper Kanuyian defeated NS Bedi Club by 11 runs. Batting first, Star Viper posted a total of 170/5, with Hammad scoring 52 and Sakander contributing 47 runs. For NS Bedi, Sunny and Laksh claimed 2 wickets each. In reply, NS Bedi managed 159 runs, with both Amandeep and Aman scoring 58 runs each. Star Viper’s Sakander was the standout bowler, taking 3 wickets. His all-round performance earned him multiple accolades, including Best Bowler, Man of the Match (Final), and Man of the Series.
Rydham Sharma of Glamorous Club was adjudged Best Batsman and Best Fielder of the tournament. The winning team, Star Viper, and runners-up, NS Bedi Club, were both awarded cash prizes.
The closing ceremony was attended by a large number of senior citizens, veteran cricketers, youth, media personnel, and members of the general public, all united in remembering and honoring the courage and sacrifice of the fallen hero.
The tournament was efficiently coordinated by Pawan Kumar PEL (Fitness Trainer BCCI, NCA JKCA) and Pervaiz Ahmed REK.
