Ashes of Shubham, killed in Pahalgam terror attack, immersed in Sangam

PRAYAGRAJ, May 3: The ashes of Shubham Dwivedi of Kanpur, who lost his life in the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, were immersed in Sangam today.

Brother Saurabh Dwivedi, along with his wife Aishanya Dwivedi and family members, reached Prayagraj with the urn of ashes. The priest performed rituals for about half an hour on the sand of Sangam. After that, cousin Saurabh immersed the ashes of Shubham Dwivedi (31) in Sangam amid chanting of Vedic mantras.

On being asked, Shubham Dwivedi’s wife, Aishanya, could only say with a choked voice that she wants her husband to be given the status of a martyr and terrorists to be eliminated. She said that no such action has been taken by the Centre so far. “I will not get any revenge until terrorism ends,” she said.

Shubham’s brother Saurabh said that he has only two demands from the government: that his brother should be given the status of a martyr and that terrorism should be eliminated. He said that strict action should be taken against the terrorists who killed our brother.

He said, “The government should eliminate them too. The roots of terrorism are very deep; hence, it needs to be uprooted. Killing two or four will not do anything. If two are killed, they will send four more. Terrorism has to be eradicated from its roots.”

A large number of local Congress leaders were present during this time. UP Congress general secretary Vivekanand Pathak said that it has been 12 days, and the government is still sitting idle while the entire opposition is with the government and is saying that strict action should be taken so that the message goes to those who carry out any terrorist incident in the future that if they look at India with wrong intentions, the consequences will not be good.

He said that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi went to his house, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also talked to his family members. He said that this matter was also raised in the CWC meeting that all the people killed in the terrorist attack in Pahalgam should be given the status of martyr. “Congress is committed to this,” he said.

It may be noted that 26 tourists were killed in the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22. Shubham was shot in front of Aishnanya. The terrorists fired indiscriminately on the tourists, in which Shubham Dwivedi of Kanpur also died.
