How to overcome real enemies

CA R K Gupta
People often talk of a person that he is the person who is my real enemy, who is damaging me, who is causing me to suffer.
It is wrong. It is an illusion. The worst enemy of a person is sitting inside yourself to whom we fail to control, we fail to understand and thereby unneccesaarily cursing those to whom we have made our alleged enemies because of our conduct, because of our desire, because of our lust, because of our greediness, because of our arrogance, because of our delusion, because of our anger and because of our jealous nature and revengeful attitude.
Although we blame a person for all this. But if we analyse the Yugas as per our Shastra i.e., Satyuga, Tritya Yuga, Dwapar Yuga and Kali Yuga, it is bound to happen. Kali the so said Kaal of Kali Yuga have created six “Shath Ripu” Six enemies to overpower the people in Kaliyuga.
These Shath Ripus are Kaama(Lust), Krodha(Violence), Lobha(Greed), Moha(Delusion), Mada(Arrogance), Matsarya(Jealousy and feud).
It is the desire of Kaal Kali that people remained involved in lust addicted to drugs, extra marital relations. It is what Kaal Kali desires that people remained violent with each other, killing each other, fighting with each other and litigant with each other and not peace lover. It is the Kaal Kali who prevails that people are so greedy that to fulfill their greed they indulge in unethical activities for their respective gains, they committ scam, they become hackers, they indulge into fraudulent activities, they loot each other, they committ thefts and they committ all possible means but their greed remain unfulfilled. No question of contentment. Kaal Kali also created illusion that is “Moh” so that people are so illusioned that they forget what is right or wrong , they become selfish and unethical and blind in illusion for their loved ones ignoring all others who really deserve and are rightful to get. The right one get deprived by illusion of person sitting on Chair. Kaal Kali also created arrogance that people seldom care to listen what is right or wrong, their attitude to others is unceremonial non coordial. To rebuke on others become their right. Last but not the least , Kaal Kali also created Jealousy so that people love inviting feuds sheer out of jealousy. They do not feel happy by the progress of others. They behave how to let down a person who has achieved goals of life, not learning out of any ones progress but how he become a villain in others life by virtue of jealousy i e ” Irshya” and ” davesh”.
Example of such persons are generally seen in movies, novels, dramas. To recommemorate, there is a very famous Novel written by William Shakespeare – ” Othello”- The Tragedy of Othello, the Moor of Venice”- wherein the warrior Hero Othello is compelled by Villain called ” Iago” to kill his wife “Desdemona”; tried to kill his Loyal, trusted Lieutinent “Cassio”. However, when Cassio got escaped then Iago killed his own aide “Roderigo” to hide the truth. But after realising the truth Othello commits suicide. Here the villain Iago is jealous of progress and promotion of Cassio; his lust and greed for Desdemona. To accomplish his desires he created feud. Othello lost his life due to his arrogant and violent nature.
Now how to overcome these six real enemies of a human being. Although this is very tough to adopt the following habits yet to overcome one must make efforts to lead a peaceful, happy life and let others also live a peaceful and happy life.
These six habits are :
” Anrisham” -Non – violence
“Anukrosham ” – Compassion
“Shrutam”- Learning
“Sheelam”- Humility
“Dama ” – Self Control
“Shama” – Tranquility
“Anrisham” – that is Non Violance. If one is Non Violent then it means he/she is able to remove Krodha/ Violence from his nature. Anger will ever be his enemy. It is the anger which invite troubles, cause losses.
“Anukrosham” that is Compassion. If one develops the habit of compassion then he or she shall be successful to remove ” Matsarya ” – that is Jealous nature from his life. Thereby one will never intend to have ” Irshya” or ” Davesh” with any one. He or she shall remain compassionate to others.
” Shrutam” – that is Learning. By learning one can easily overcome “Moha” – the Delusion. Infact, it is the Delusion which invites so many troubles. Had Lord Dritrashtra not delusioned in “Putar – Moh”- he could have saved Duryodhan and his other sons and could have avoided Mahabharta to happen. It is because of his Delusion for his Son that he could not understand the rights of his real nephews – the Pandhvas.
“Sheelam”- that is Humility. It is your unceremonial behaviour which invite troubles. If you behave with Humality you are able to overcome – the “Mada”- the Arrogance. That is why it is often taught that speak with Humility; behave properly, dont be arogant.
“Dama” – that is the Self Control. If you have control on your yourself then you shall be able to control all type Lust from your life. You shall be known as a person with character, a person of integrity, descipline and cultured.
“Shama” – that is Tranquility/Peace/Satiation. Once you develop a habit of Tranquility then you become a peace lover. You will ever forgive others. You shall be able to over cone your “Lobha” that is greed which is another dangerous enemy in Kaliyuga. It was the Greed of Sikandra to overcome the whole World. But when he left this Universe he expressed his desire to keep his hands out of ” Coffin” to convey a bitter truth- “khali Haath aye thei or Khali Haath Jana Hai” – rest is myth, illusion.
So live a life to live for your name not for minting wealth, be a lover of peace, always be non violent, what for this arrogance, greed for whom, there is nothing in lust, character is more important- develop to control yourself , not to be jealous of others – no ” Irshya” – no “davesh”, be learned to sacrifice your ” Moha” , thereby you can overcome to live a real peaceful and joyful life.
To sum up, lead a contended life and try to overcome all the six enemies of this Kaliyuga by meditating for half an hour everyday and chanting – I love peace; i am content, let others be happy, shall do good to others, shall not be jealous of others, shall remain compassionate, shall talk to others with humility, shall have no lust in my life, shall ever forgive others.
