Baghdad, Feb 3: The death toll from the US shelling of Al Anbar Governorate in western Iraq has risen to 16 people, the Shafaq news agency reported on Saturday, citing the Iraqi command for local military operations.
Earlier in the day, state-run Syrian broadcaster Al-Akhbar reported that several people had been killed as a result of the recent US strikes against targets in the Syrian Desert and on Syria’s border with Iraq, while a source in the Iraqi security services told Sputnik that one civilian had been killed and another one injured as a result of the US shelling of the Qaim area in western Iraq.
“The US shelling killed 16 people,” the Iraqi command was quoted by Shafaq News as saying.
On Saturday night, the United States said it had hit over 85 targets linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and its affiliated forces in Iraq and Syria in response to the recent attack on a US military base in Jordan.
