Mystery shrouds murder of retired principal, wife

JAMMU: Mystery shrouded the suspicious murder of a retired Principal and his wife in a house at Patta Bohri in the Jammu City outskirts on Saturday evening.
61-year-old Sanjay Chandel and his wife Veena Devi , resident of 310-D, Master Lane, Patta Bohri, Jammu were found murdered suspiciously in their bedroom. “Sanjay Chandel has been apparently strangulated by some wire while his wife might have received some internal head injury during some scuffle,” an eye witness accompanying police team, said.
The crime was reported this evening when the couple didn’t responded to their daughter’s phone calls from Shimla, and a relative running a chemist shop in nearby area was asked to check, police said. Both were found dead and three cups of tea were found on the table while the LPG gas stove was on which was immediately put off.
The couple had spoken to their elder daughter at London around 12 noon today. This means the crime took place in the afternoon, police suspects, adding around 5:00 PM police post Pouni Chak was informed when a relative checked their house.
Immediately the house was seized by a police team. Meanwhile, Chandel’s relatives and friends also reached at the spot. Dog squad and FSL teams were summoned. Police is also securitizing the CCTVs installed in neighbourhood.
Motive behind this heinous crime is not known, however, police is working on various theories to unearth the mystery.
Chandel retired as Higher Secondary School Principal seven months ago and recently he had undergone foot surgery and these days his moment was also restricted.
The bodies have been shifted to the GMC hospital mortuary for post mortem.
