JAMMU, Oct 18: After the poor performance of Congress Party in Jammu region in the recently held Assembly elections, the J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) chief, in consultation with the AICC president, today constituted a fact- finding committee to ascertain the reasons behind it.

A party spokesman said that JKPCC chief, Tariq Hameed Karra in consultation with the AICC president, Mallikarjun Kharge today constituted a high-powered committee to find out the reasons behind the party’s poor performance in Jammu region.
The 7-member panel has been asked to submit its report within 30 days. The committee has also been tasked to suggest measures to strengthen the party.
Senior party leader, Ravinder Sharma has been appointed as Chairman of the Committee, while party leaders -Jehangir Mir, Naresh Gupta (Adv), Thakur Balwan Singh, Shah Mohd Chowdhary (Adv), Ved Mahajan and Dina Nath Baghat have been inducted as members.
Pertinent to mention here that Congress Party’s performance remained all- time low as only one, out of 29 candidates, could win in the Assembly elections in Jammu region, while its prominent leaders including two working presidents- Raman Bhalla and Tara Chand, former DyCM lost the elections.
Congress won total six Assembly seats in J&K including five in Kashmir and only one from Rajouri in Jammu region.
In Kashmir, the Wagoora-Kreeri seat was won by Irfan Hafiz Lone with a margin of 7,751 votes, securing a total of 17,002 votes. Bandipora seat was won by Nizam Uddin Bhat with a narrow margin of 811 votes, having secured 20,391 votes.
Central Shalteng seat was won by JKPCC president, Tariq Hameed Karra, with a margin of over 14,000 votes, securing a total of 18,933 votes. The Dooru seat was won by former JKPCC president Ghulam Ahmad Mir with a margin of 29,728 votes, securing over 44,000 votes.
Former PCC chief, Peerzada Mohd Syed won the Anantnag seat with a margin of 1,686 votes, securing a total of 6,679 votes. The Rajouri (ST) Assembly seat was secured by Iftkar Ahmed, who bagged 28,923 votes, with a winning margin of 1,404 votes.
