JAMMU: At the ongoing International Film Festival Jammu, which was officially inaugurated by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at Bage-Bahu, the film “Gumrah” made by two J&K High Court lawyers, Adv. Narinder Sharma and Adv. Umesh Sharma, received the Special Recognition Award for Local Talent.
The film, which was showcased at Abhinav Theater Jammu, addresses critical societal issues, including the impact of drones and drugs, the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits, and the abrogation of Article 370.
The jury members praised the film’s creative approach and its powerful, positive message aimed at the youth and society at large. “Gumrah” was commended for shedding light on significant contemporary issues in a thought-provoking manner.
The film features performances by several prominent lawyers from the J&K High Court Bar Association, including Advocate Bindusar Abrol, Advocate Srishti Paul Mengi, Advocate Abrar Sheikh, Advocate Abdul Ghafoor, Advocate Umesh Sharma, and Advocate Narinder Sharma, among others.
The International Film Festival showcased films and documentaries from 29 countries, with a total of 59 short films, 14 documentaries, and 5 feature films being presented.
The recognition of “Gumrah” at such a prestigious event highlights the growing influence of local talent in the global film industry.
The award not only celebrates the creative achievements of the filmmakers but also brings attention to important social issues, encouraging meaningful discourse through the medium of cinema.
