JAMMU, Nov 29: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic Rural Jammu, GL Sharma, recently visited Rajouri and Poonch districts to gain firsthand insights into local traffic-related challenges.
During the visit, SSP interacted with civil society members, transport officials, and other stakeholders.
Briefings were held with traffic personnel in both districts, where instructions were given to manage and regulate traffic to ensure smooth movement and prevent congestion.
The officers were directed to strictly enforce the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act to curb traffic violations.
They were also instructed to utilize equipment like body-worn cameras, fluorescent jackets, traffic signal rods, speed radar guns, noise pollution devices, and breath analyzers effectively.
Additionally, the officers were asked to conduct awareness programs in schools, colleges, and public spaces to educate drivers, transporters, and shopkeepers about road safety.
Meetings were also held with SSP Rajouri and SSP Poonch to discuss traffic management solutions in coordination with local police and administration.
In Poonch, a joint team, including SSP Traffic and local officers, toured the town to assess traffic issues at key locations such as the old bazaar and bus stand.
SSP Traffic Rural Jammu also reviewed the condition of the under-construction NH-144A from Bhambla to Poonch, identifying accident hotspots.
Directions were issued to take corrective actions like installing reflectors, warning boards, and diversions at critical points to prevent accidents, especially during night driving or adverse weather conditions.
The SSP Traffic Rural Jammu sought a well coordinated effort from all the stakeholders to reduce the accidents and loss of precious lives besides ensuring decongestion of roads.
