Abdul Rahid, a professional theatre artist from Budgam, was among the first to show his admiration to PM Modi.
He wore a Pheran over the cut-out of Prime Minister Modi at the Clock Tower, offering a symbolic tribute to Kashmir’s cultural heritage.
“We are observing Pheran Day, and for the second time, we have held this ceremony here. Last year, too, I donned the PM Modi’s life-size cut-out with a Pheran,” Rahid said.
On the occasion, he lit Izband in the traditional kangri and offered sweets as symbolic gestures.
“We will continue holding such events to ensure that this traditional dress reaches more people and gets promoted,” he added.
“The Pheran represents warmth and tradition, especially during the harshest 40 days of Chilay-Kalan. Today, we feel like our culture is being acknowledged at the national level,” a local resident remarked.
Locals and tourists from different states gathered around Lal Chowk to capture photos with the cut-out of PM Modi wearing the traditional Pheran.
Another resident: “The Pheran is more than just a coat. It is a part of who we are. We all must wear the Pheran and give it the best place it deserves.”
On the occasion, folk music and other cultural performances were presented by local artists, mesmerizing the audience.
