Dr Harleen awarded ‘Bharat Bhushan Award’ in Bhopal

JAMMU, Dec 22: Dr Harleen Kaur, Senior Professor of Microbiology, Govt Medical College Jammu was honoured in Bhopal for her contribution to the society during the Covid pandemic and her selfless service to the poor and down trodden strata of the society during last more than 20 years. She was awarded “Bharat Bhushan Award” in the National Conference Summit 2024 held at Bhopal, the prestigious award was handed over to Dr Harleen by Padmashree Dr Vijay Kumar Shah Chancellor of NAHF, in the presence of chief guest Air Commodore S Akhter.
Dr Harleen has established RTPCR testing laboratory for Covid patients during the pandemic at CSIR-IIIM Jammu and got virtual inspection of the laboratory from ICMR Delhi to get it registered for testing of suspected Covid patients in J&K. She has been honoured for her motto, “Service above self”.
While serving in the sensitive field of Microbiology, she was critically infected by the Covid virus twice and had to battle for her life, but she never gave up and continued to perform Covid testing inspite of getting life threatening COVID complications with which she is still fighting on day-to-day basis.
She has been awarded by the Health and Medical Education Department for her contribution during COVID pandemic. The Indian army has also awarded her for her contribution to the Nation during Covid pandemic. She is also a recipient of prestigious “Manager Award” from UK.
