Apple CEO Cook to donate $1mln to Trump inauguration

WASHINGTON, Jan 4: Apple CEO Tim Cook will donate $1 million to US President-elect Donald Trump’s inaugural committee, Axios reported on Saturday, citing sources familiar with the matter.

Cook, who has had collaborative relations with Trump in the past and held a meeting with him last month, will make a donation in the spirit of American unity, seeing the inauguration as a great tradition for the country, the sources said.

The Goldman Sachs investment bank, the Bank of America are also going to donate seven-figure sums, the report read, adding that the Kraken and Coinbase crypto exchanges are making donations as well.

At the same time, Toyota, Ford and General Motors carmakers are donating at least $1 million, the report added.

A presidential election took place in the United States on November 5. Republican candidate Donald Trump, who served as the US president from 2017-2021, was declared the winner by all leading race callers and networks. Democratic candidate Kamala Harris conceded defeat.

The Electoral College voted in accordance with the will of the voters on December 17, while the new Congress will approve the results of the vote on January 6. The presidential inauguration will take place on January 20.
