SRINAGAR, Jan 12: The 5th Jammu and Kashmir State Arm Wrestling Championship concluded, here today after two days of intense competition, with over 300 participants across 40 categories.
The event was organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Arm Wrestling Association under the People’s Arm Wrestling Federation India (PAFI), featured male and female athletes in sub-junior, junior, youth, senior and para-athlete categories.
Tajamul Bilal and Abu Ikram were crowned Champions of the year in the youth and senior categories, respectively, while the junior category saw remarkable performances. The inclusion of 10 para-athletes and 15 female participants highlighted the growing inclusivity and appeal of the sport.
The championship also served as a qualifier for the National Arm Wrestling Championship, with the top two medalists from each category securing a place at the national level. PAFI president Preeti Jhangiani and Pro Panja League Co-Founder Parvin Dabas attended the closing ceremony, lauding the talent in Jammu and Kashmir. They stressed the importance of arm wrestling in keeping youth focused and away from negative influences like drug abuse.
Jammu and Kashmir Arm Wrestling Association President Farooq Ahmad Dar expressed gratitude for the event’s success, emphasizing its role in promoting fitness and social good. Divisional Sports Officer Nusrat Ghazala, Arm Wrestling Association member Mushtaq Ahmad Zargar, and Coach Showkat Ahmad Narwari also attended and praised the event’s positive impact on local youth.
