JAMMU, Jan 22: LIC employees of Jammu and Kashmir under the banner of Northern Zone Insurance Employees’ Association, staged massive protest demonstration outside offices of LIC of India across Jammu Kashmir.
They were demanding recruitment in the Class 3 and 4 cadre besides projecting their other pending demands.
The employees in Jammu under the leadership of Pawan Gupta; Divisional Secretary of the Association gathered in support of their long pending demands. Speaking on the occasion at DO Cell Jammu, Gupta stressed upon the LIC Management and the Government of India for immediate recruitment in LIC. He said the LIC has over the years, not only registered tremendous growth, but has also played a stellar role in channelizing the community’s savings for nation building activities.
Gupta said the LIC has set unprecedented performance records in various aspects of life insurance business. Commencing its operations with a paltry sum of Rs 5 crores in the year 1956, the LIC today commands over an astronomically huge asset base of over Rs 55 lakh crore. It is the largest life insurance company in the world in terms of number of policies with a customer base of over 40 crore. On one hand LIC has been on the continuous path of growth, on the other hand, there is no recruitment since February 2020.
Instead there is continuous exit of the class-3 & 4 employees by way of retirement and promotions. Seeing to the huge decline in the Class-3 & 4 work force, and the huge growth in LIC, immediate recruitment is need of the hour.
The demonstrators also demanded to give recognition to All India Insurance Employees’ Association which commands nearly 80% of the membership.
Prominent among others who spoke on the occasion included Rajesh Gupta, Dinesh Kumar Sharma, Raj Kumar, Priya Sharma, Harkesh Kumar Singh and Kishore Lal. Similar protests were held at Srinagar and other districts also.
