Jammu, Jan 23: In the backdrop of a shootout in which a gangster was killed in broad daylight in the heart of the city, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Jammu Zone, Shiv Kumar Sharma on Thursday directed the officers to maintain a list of gangsters and break their financial network.
Chairing a meeting here regarding gangsters and criminals of Jammu, Kathua Samba Districts, the DIG stressed the need for special efforts to take stern action against gangsters, and anti-social elements.
He also directed the officers to maintain a list so that proper surveillance can be maintained over their activities and they shall be booked under the Public Safety Act.
“Break their network of financial circle, seize their properties which are accumulated by them through illegal trade, including extortion, land-grabbing, property dealing,” he said.
The DIG further directed officers to monitor the support system of these criminals and book them, their relatives, and friends who support and shelter them.
The top cop also directed all the officers to launch a massive drive in their jurisdiction against the vehicles that underwent illegal modifications (vehicles found with tinted glasses, illegal modification for any criminal look, using loud music, and without a number plate).
The DIG directed officers to take strict legal action against anyone found possessing illegal weapons, and land grabbers. The cases of land grabbing and extortion should be taken seriously and anyone who threatens the public should be booked under the law immediately, he said.
Parents, civil society, and responsible citizens be involved in spreading awareness against Criminals and gangsters to support the police in breaking their network as these criminals are bad for a peaceful environment, said the officer adding that the youth and students must be saved from falling in the trap of these criminals, who glorify criminal activities.
Meanwhile, Sharma reviewed the security situation given the upcoming Republic Day and highlighted the need for meticulous planning and execution of security measures to address any potential threats and challenges.
All the officers were directed to strengthen the nakas especially in the border areas in the wee and night hours and identify the places where more nakas to be established.
The DIG told the officers to maintain proper liaison with all the intelligence agencies in their respective jurisdiction and share the same on real real-time basis.
