Minister flags off J&K contingent for 38th National Games, promises full support

JAMMU, Jan 27: The J&K contingent for the 38th National Games was officially flagged off by Satish Sharma, Minister for Youth Services and Sports during a vibrant ceremony held at KK Hakku Stadium in Jammu. The event saw the gathering of key officials, including Secretary of the J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gul and General Secretaries of various Sports Associations.
The contingent, comprising 108 athletes (87 male and 21 female), will compete in 14 different sports disciplines at the National Games scheduled in Uttarakhand from January 28 to February 14, 2025. The athletes are set to showcase their talents in disciplines like Wushu, Boxing, Netball, Fencing, Gymnastics, Judo, Yoga, Cycling, Water Sports, Archery, Shooting, Taekwondo and Wrestling.
Satish Sharma congratulated the athletes for their selection and expressed confidence in their ability to shine on the national stage. Sharma also reassured the athletes of the Government’s unwavering support, noting that they would have access to top-tier infrastructure, training programs, and opportunities to compete at both national and international events. He further highlighted the Government’s commitment, under the leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, to enhance sports infrastructure and provide modern facilities for athletes.
Kiran Wattal has been appointed as the Chef-de-Mission for the contingent and he has already arrived at the venue to manage logistics, including the arrival, departure, and accommodation of the J&K teams and players.
