Shouting slogans in support of their demands, they appealed the Lt Governor, Chief Minister and Education Minister to look into their genuine demands as they have been working in Govt schools for very meagre wages.
They were demanding enhancement of their wages at least as per Minimum Wages Act, regularization as Government employees of those workers who have been doing the said work for more than 10 years, no break of any months in release of their wages, regular crediting of their salaries in their accounts and biometric attendance of all the cooks in Education Department.
Claiming that 50 percent of cooks are graduates, they demanded that these educated should be given first priority in regularization.
“We request the Government to increase the Central honorarium for Cook-cum-Helpers under PM POSHAN and these Cook-cum-Helpers should be extended additional benefits such as paid leave, health insurance and retirement benefits,” they said.
“These steps would be immensely beneficial to over 30000 Cooks-cum-Helpers, mostly women, who are working under the scheme. It would ensure fair compensation, and a liveable wage to these essential workers of our education system,” they hoped that the Government would look into their demands with utmost urgency and ensure that these essential workers get justice.
