Earlier on January 20, a gangster, Sumit Jandial (37) alias Gataru of Vijaypur, Samba, was shot dead by the rival Khauf gang members near a Police Check Post in Jammu’s Jewel Chowk locality in the broad daylight, causing tension in the area.
The recent incident happened around 6:30 pm when the assailants, travelling in an Alto car, fired three to four gunshots at Arun Choudhary son of Janak Raj, Sachin Choudhary son of Ashok Kumar, and Manmohan son of Subash—all residents of Phallain Mandal while they were sitting near the Panchayat Ghar, a police official said.
“Panicked, the victims ran in different directions to save their lives. Fortunately, none of the youth sustained injuries during the chase,” he said.
Later, the police official said, the accused damaged the window panes of two parked vehicles—a Scorpio (JK02DL-9921) and a WagonR (JK02AK-5755) —using sharp-edged weapons (tokas), causing further panic in the area.
After committing the crime, the accused fled the crime scene using the same Alto car, he said.
While the accused were not identified and arrested till the press time, a case FIR number 23/2025 under the relevant sections of the law was registered at Police Station Satwari and further investigations taken up.
Quoting preliminary investigations, the police official said that motive of the firing was a personal rivalry between the two groups.
