JAMMU, Feb 5: Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Jammu-Samba-Kathua (JSK) Range, Shiv Kumar Sharma, chaired a high-level meeting today at DPL Jammu to address the increasing incidents of gang wars, robberies, and thefts in the region.
The meeting was attended by senior police officials, including SSP Jammu Joginder Singh, SP North, SP South, SP HQ, SP Rural, and other key officers.
During the meeting, the intelligence agencies provided a detailed overview of the activities of criminals and gangsters, including their financial backing, weapons, vehicles, shelters, and communication methods.
DIG Sharma stressed the need for immediate action against gangsters, drug peddlers, thieves, and other criminals.
He directed officers to maintain comprehensive lists of offenders to ensure effective surveillance and disrupt their networks.
Special focus was placed on seizing properties acquired through illegal activities like extortion, land grabbing, and property dealings.
The DIG also urged officers to monitor and take action against those providing shelter or support to criminals, including their families and associates.
He emphasized a zero-tolerance approach toward criminal activities and instructed officers to tackle recent incidents of theft, robberies, and shootings in Jammu.
Addressing the growing drug menace, Sharma called for a mission-oriented approach to dismantle drug trafficking networks.
He also emphasized the need for vigilance against suspicious individuals to prevent anti-national activities and maintain peace.
Sharma warned against the glorification of gangsters and criminals on social media and urged legal action against those promoting such figures.
He also called on the media to help expose criminal networks and discourage youth from getting involved in criminal activities.
In a bid to strengthen law enforcement, the DIG highlighted the importance of coordination with intelligence agencies, including the Army, Para-Military forces, and Central agencies.
He also directed officers to establish more security checkpoints (nakas) in their jurisdictions and ensure active surveillance over troublemakers and history-sheeters.
Sharma concluded the meeting by urging officers to strengthen community relationships, ensuring a more public-friendly approach in tackling crime.
He reaffirmed the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of citizens and pledged to take strong action against those disturbing the peace.
