In an order issued by the Health and Medical Education (H&ME) Department, it was Stated that the step has been taken to ensure a fair and impartial investigation into the matter.
“Pending enquiry into the incident that occurred on 03.02.2025 at Hakeem Sonaullah Hospital, Sopore and to ensure a fair and impartial investigation while maintaining the integrity of the healthcare system, the… doctors are hereby placed under suspension with immediate effect and shall remain attached with Directorate of Health Services, Jammu till further orders,” the order said.
The doctors who have faced the action include Dr. Anjum Nazir, Consultant Gynaecologist at SDH Sopore, and Dr. Tariq Ahmad Dar, Medical Officer (Diploma in Anesthesia) at DH Bandipora.
Both doctors were engaged in private practice at the said hospital.
Furthermore, the order Stated that the doctors are prohibited from engaging in any form of private practice across J&K.
“Additionally, Operation theatre of Hakeem Sonaullah Hospital, Sopore, shall remain sealed till the conclusion of the enquiry,” the order Stated.
The district authorities also swung into action today and sealed the operation theatre of the hospital until the completion of the inquiry, while hinting that the hospital’s registration might also be suspended for the time being.
ADC Sopore, Shabir Ahmad Raina, while speaking with media persons after sealing the operation theatre, said that the allegation is that the surgery was intended for the left ear, “but instead, the uterus of the patient was removed.”
He said they have collected evidence and met with the hospital authorities to gather other details from them.
Raina stated that there has been some fault, which, he said, is being ascertained.
“We have sealed the operation theatre until the inquiry is completed. If there is any registration, we will ensure its deregistration until the inquiry is finished.”
Regarding the family members of the patient, he said they are uncertain about what they have to say.
“They are changing their Statements, but we are on it; we are collecting information from other sources. There are many questions that need to be answered,” he said.
It is important to note that earlier, a family alleged that a doctor-who is accused of having a questionable track record in medical practice-at the private hospital performed an unnecessary hysterectomy instead of the intended ENT surgery.
The patient’s attendants had claimed that the woman was taken to the operation theatre for an ENT procedure but later discovered that a doctor had mistakenly performed a hysterectomy, removing her uterus.
The family had also claimed that no prior tests or ultrasounds were conducted to justify such a drastic procedure, leaving them confused about what actually happened.
